A New York City police officer shot in the chest was saved from serious injury by his bulletproof vest.
The 34-year-old officer was treated at a hospital and released. Police say the vest absorbed the blow.
No arrests have been made. The incident happened in Brooklyn’s Bushwick section at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators are trying to figure out where the projectile came from and whether it was from a low-caliber firearm or a pellet gun.
It is not clear whether the officer was the intended target.
