Tragic Story In Passaic Should Serve As Warning To People Dealing With Snow

coThe following horrible tragedy happened in Passaic, NJ on Saturday night. Hatzolah and Chevra Kaddisha services were not needed in this incident, but this horrific tragedy should be used as a warning to anyone dealing with snow.

A 23-year-old mother and her 1-year-old child died of carbon monoxide poisoning Saturday night as they were sitting in a car that had its tailpipe covered in snow. The mother’s 3-year-old child is in “very critical condition” at the hospital, police said.

Their father was shoveling for about 20 minutes and when he went to the car, parked outside 47 Sherman St., and found that he couldn’t wake up his family and called for help, Detective Andy White said.

Authorities responded at 8:15 p.m. and found the mother and her children had been pulled from the car and people were performing CPR on them, White said.

The family lives on Brinkerhoff Place but had parked their white four-door Mazda on Sherman Street, White said.

They were rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, where the mother and the 1-year-old child were pronounced dead, White said.
