Police National Fraud Unit investigators are recommending a criminal indictment against Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman for money laundering and related charges following the investigation against him.
The senior minister in his response to the police recommendation stated Israel Police has been hounding him for 13 years, making recommendations regarding numerous alleged crimes, but to date, there has not been and convictions against him. In the past, he has accused police of conducting a witch hunt against him, demanding that open investigations be closed if there is no evidence to move ahead with an indictment.
According to law, Lieberman is not compelled to step down since at present, he is not facing a criminal indictment, only a police recommendation that the prosecution file one against him.
