Police have released statements that the shabbos afternoon protest by the Eida Chareidis represented stepped-up violence in the ongoing weekly event decrying the operation of the Karta parking lot.
A number of police were assaulted and eggs were thrown at them as about 150 protestors managed to reach the parking lot area and block the street. It must be added that the photos released from the protest does not depict a number of misguided ‘street youths’ or delinquents, but men in their 30s and 40s.
Police and city officials released statements of concern over this shabbos’ protest, which they feel crossed lines that should not have been crossed.
Critics point out that the protest itself is responsible for considerable chilul shabbos.

Just days after Tisha B’Av and we see Jews fighting Jews. Where is this possibly going to lead us?
Miss Aliza, don’t believe everything (or anything) claimed by these police.
We know that Hashem meets out justice Mida k’neged Mida. In this country there is an Orthodox synagogue organization in existence since 1912 that claims to have a policy of closing its parking spaces on Shabbos. Yet one of newest synagogues in the Silver State has made a deliberate point of leaving its parking spaces open for people to drive there even though the adjacent parking lots of an office building, closed restaurant and public library are practically empty on Shabbos. Is is possible the reason we as Bnai Yisroel are experiencing such tzar over an open parking lot on Shabbos in Yerushalayim is because we are hypocritical about it? Why does no one protest the Orthodox organization that keeps its synagogue parking lot open on Shabbos in the Silver State?
I don’t hold of hafgones but people who go because there rabonim tell them to go it is disgusting for us to critsize
What the police needs to do, is to arrest the leaders of the “eidah”, ban the usage of their hasgacha, take away from them their political clout (even though they are sworn anti-zionist)and this will end their violence. I for my part hate the violations of shabbat, but you cannot bring people to keep Torah and mitzvot thru violence, that’s not the Torah way. aAnd if the “eidah” care about other Jews they would have done some kiruv work to bring the chilonim to observance, but they don’t care, that’s a sad reality….
Yes, the Yerushalayim Mishtara is an organization I’D trust to tell the truth about a situation. They never purposely lie to defame chareidim, or purposely attack chareidim, or unequivocally take the side of chilonim in each and every instance.
That would be ridiculous, callous, and reek of severe abuse of police authority.
And we all know no governmental organization in Israel would be ridiculous when dealing with chareidim.
“Critics point out that the protest itself is responsible for considerable chilul shabbos.”
This is a Halachic discussion. What does RYSE say on the matter? Why are we quoting “critics” on a halachic shaila? We dont quote “critics” with regards to nidda shailos, or hilchos ribbis.
AIUI – not that I am a part of these protests / riots – one is NOT responsible to refrain from doing a specific action, just because a mechalel shabbos will be mechalel shabbos due to yoru action. Its not Lifnei Iveir deoraissa for sure, since without you, he can – and will – be mechalel shabbos anyways. And its not mesayaya ledvar aveira either, though the reason escapes me right now.
If I am mistaken, and there are poskim who disagee, please quote them.
Thanks for clearing this up.
To #6 I think the police should hire you.
“Police have released statements”??
Who cares what libelous “statement” these thuggish police release??
BigMo, it will be a pleasure, I’m tired of their violence and senseless hatred for the state of Israel and for calling for it’s destruction and for supporting the actions of the neturei karta.
to #6. Who says the Eida should be doing Kiruv? If it wasnt for the Eida Yerushlayim would be worse off. Maybe go do kiruv
The Eida by promoting Hafganas, they are goirem more chillul shabbos. they are goirem more people to be arrested. They are goirem more sinas chinom between chareidi and non chareidi. ze loi derech hatorah
Hey ganse_knacker, every Jew should do kiruv, that is if you love your fellow Jew or you never learned about Ahavat Israel?. I geuss you and so called “religious jews” should go back to Heder and learn the alef-bet of what is to love a fellow Jew no matter if he/she keeps the mitzvot or not…..and then come back and talk to me.
Do you mean “incitement”, #15?
#14 – you are wrong. you are abviously speaking from a lack of kiruv experience. wrong wrong wrong
In terms of villanizing the evil, secular police…I can say first-hand as a witness that the police were calm, respectful & profoundly patient. They were professional.
I hope that the real gedolim of our generation decide to stand up against the Eidah-Hataliban-Hachareidis.
