Israel’s Justice Ministry says former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has signed a plea bargain in which he will plead guilty to obstruction of justice for pressuring a confidant not to testify in multiple legal cases against him.
The Justice Ministry said Monday that Olmert will be sentenced to six months imprisonment, which he will serve concurrent to a separate 18-month prison sentence he received for a bribery scandal. The plea deal will not add additional prison time to the earlier sentence.
Olmert is set to report to prison on Feb. 15. He will be the first Israeli leader to go to prison, after Israel’s Supreme Court upheld the bribery conviction against him last month.
The Justice Ministry says Olmert is appealing the convictions in other legal cases against him.
