It is now being announced the food remaining from weekly cabinet meetings will no longer be discarded, but donated to the needy due to the actions of Eli Groner, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s Bureau Chief.
It appears the move follows a report published by Yediot Achronot that stated ministerial aides and staff are not permitted into the cabinet room and therefore, all the remaining food is tossed.
It is explained security personnel do not permit anyone that is not a cabinet minister into the room. A minister’s staff is among those barred, even to just enter and take a bite or something to drink. The food is available to ministers only and then tossed.
After learning of this reality, the Yad Ezra and Shulamit tzedaka contacted PM Bureau Chief Eli Groner, requesting a change in the current regulations to permit using the food for the needy following a meeting rather than tossing it. The tzedaka fund explains to Groner in its letter “the food tossed away can be given to hundreds of hungry mouths of children, the elderly and ill for we no longer have even the minimum to give”. Groner has responded positively and promises arrangements to accommodate this will be made.
