The Lakewood Cheder and Bais Faiga Executive Director, Rabbi Yosef Posen, recently sent out a letter to all faculty and staff members to let them know that the school has bought them each a lottery ticket.
The Powerball is currently at an estimated jackpot of $1.5 billion, hence the increased attention to the lottery and the resurgence of people buying tickets who normally wouldn’t.

To the 477 Faculty and Staff Members of the Lakewood Cheder and Bais Faiga:
The זכות of a רבים, and especially a רבים of תלמידי חכמים ובני תורה and their משפחות, cannot be understated. As a person never knows hoe הקב“ה sends ישועות, we have decided to purchase a lottery ticket for each member of the מוסד as a group, to be shared by every Cheder and Bais Faiga faculty and staff member, with an additional share going to the Cheder itself. הרבה דרכים למקום, and this is simply השתדלות on the Cheder’s part for our devoted employees.

It’s interesting that the date on the letter is a little off.The year is 5766 and the date says Daled shvat which is tomorrow. …

It’s a good thing they didn’t win or the school would have had no faculty left the next day.
