A number of con men dressed as chareidim were operating in northern Israel, collecting money on hilulot (yahrzeits). Apparently they collected a handsome sum and then disappeared.

Police in the northern district on Tuesday 2 Shevat released an alert, instructing storeowners and others in the Haifa and Nahariya areas to check out rabbonim prior to making donations. The alert explains to people that a con artist has been operating in the area, disguised as a rov/mekubal.
