candle914Once again tragedy has R”L befallen the chareidi tzibur in Eretz Yisrael. An 18-month-old child did not awaken on Tuesday morning 2 Shevat. EMS was summoned to the Kiryat Ata apartment but it was too late.

YWN-ISRAEL released a list of tragedies R”L that have befallen the frum tzibur in Eretz Yisrael and the response from HaGaon HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita and other Gedolei Yisrael Shlita.

The EMS team that arrived in the Kiryat Ata apartment began CPR and after about a half hour, the Magen David Adom physician on the scene pronounced the child dead.

Ichud Hatzalah Carmel District Chief Naftali Rothenberg reported the death appears to be SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), sometimes simply called “crib death”.

  1. Crib deaths are terrible personal family tragedies which unfortunately occur too often along with stillborns and miscarriages. I just don’t see this as a public news item. Are you going to report every death?

  2. #1 every premature death in the frum world is significant! and every one should be reported, and they are. each person is an oilam molei- a yiddishe neshama that is .. who is reporting untimely goyishe deaths, i didnt see any here.

  3. Terribly sad. Horrible. But not SIDS. By definition, it is the inexplicable death of babies up to one year old. Eighteen month olds who pass away are not in this category.

  4. Tragic? Yes. Crib Death? No. Babies do not die of SIDS at 18 months. And SIDS is by definition unexplained and occurs without underlying symptoms.Let us have no more kaparos.

  5. Crib deaths are uncommon past one year of age. That said, any time a parent has to bury a child is tragic and heart wrenching. My heart goes out to them, the grandparents, siblings, the rest of the family and the Hatzalah members who responded to the call. May Hashem be menachem them.

  6. BS”D As the mother of a baby who was niftar from crib death (SIDS), I know the pain of such a tragic loss. It is important to make sure that babies are put down to sleep on their backs rather than on their tummies, even though they sleep better and deeper on their tummies. Please spread the word to new parents. Since this has been put in to common practice, rates of SIDS has plummeted.
May Hashem bring nechama to the bereaved family and bring them nachas from a large wonderful family
