The following is via ABC2:
People from Pikesville to Park Heights are on high alert. They’re concerned after a rash of armed robberies, home break-ins and stolen cars in the area near the city-county line.
“It’s not very comfortable if you’re afraid to go out of your house,” said Jonah Ottensoser. “People breaking doors down, it’s not very pleasant to think about.”
“I was afraid to be home and I was afraid to be out,” Jennifer Dill said.
Her home was recently hit. The crooks stole electronics and other expensive items.
“I left to take my boys carpool at 8:25 a.m., by 8:45 a.m. my husband left the house, and by 9 a.m. my door was kicked in and the house was ransacked.”
And she’s not alone. Dozens of people have been victimized over the last few weeks in both the city and county. It’s the reason a community crime meeting was called Monday night.
“What’s alarming is it was occurring during the day, not always during the evening,” said Captain Jason Yerg with the Northwest District.
Officers answered questions and talked to folks about the uptick in crime. Some people think more police need to be in the area.
“It makes me feel that they’re doing something about it,” Ottensoser said. “But they need to support the community and they need to tell us what we can do, and what they’re gonna do, and hopefully we can put a stop to this as much as possible.”
“I know they can’t be everywhere,” Dill said. “The people in our community really need to be the eyes and ears, that’s the only way we’re gonna stop anyone.”
Police are urging people to make sure alarm systems are turned on, they say people should keep doors and windows locked, keep their homes well lit at night, and write down the serial numbers for valuable items.
City officers tell us they arrested two teens last week who they think are responsible for a large number of the crimes.
