Psychiatrist Retracts Evaluation on Meah Shearim Mom

ywbn17.gif3:00PM IL: In an announcement that will have profound ramifications. Psychiatrist Dr. Yaakov Weill has announced he is retracting the evaluation on the Meah Shearim mom suspected of abuse that was submitted to the court.

In his official evaluation submitted to the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, Dr. Weill stated the mother in question does not have Munchausen by proxy and she does not pose a danger to her children. The weight of the doctor’s evaluation was instrumental in the court’s decision to release her and permit her to rejoin her family. Dr. Weill was the court-appointed psychiatrist instructed to evaluate the mental state of the mother.

According to the Ynet report, Dr. Weill sent a letter to Rabbi Avraham Freilich, who was responsible for the mother during her house arrest period, stating he did not have the proper tools to make the determination. “I will stress that I do not consider myself an expert witness appointed by the court, and I was just obliging you, the rabbis, who asked that I examine her”, Ynet quotes the letter as saying.

The state prosecution has submitted the letter to the court.

YWN Israel contacted the Eida Chareidis and awaits a statement which will be published forthwith.

  1. HE needs his license investigated. It doesn’t sound like he should have been involved. What’s HIS agenda???

  2. I know from a reliable source that this woman is innocent and is a victim of a very well oiled system for anyone who questions it or opposes it.

  3. Dr. Weill was the court-appointed psychiatrist instructed to evaluate the mental state of the mother.

Has he ever retracted another of his evaluations?

I understand if he said he was not competent enough before he submitted his report to the court, but afterwards…?

what changed his mind about himself? or did someone else help him change his mind?

  4. Who knows how much money bribe was??? from police or Haddassah hospital??? This is sort of hilarious to remind himself few days later that she isn’t right- but the situation is too sad to even laugh… Poor woman is a ball in b/w zionim & charaidim- these police yemach shemom wanna do everyting in there power to show they’re right & this poor woman is monkey in middle… hashem yeracheim… everyonen please daven for Yenta bas Yocheved …

  5. Dr. Yaakov Weill came to evaluate a mother, but we are left wondering if he himself needs an evaluation!

what level of trust is this court-appointed psychiatrist building between the Haredim and the courts, or between the Haredim and the professionalism of psychiatrists?

Hash-m should save us all from incompetent ‘experts’.

  6. Dr. Weill will be arrested for “Obstruction Of Justice”. Another astounding Chillul Hashem, and further proof for the government to use as proof about the negligence and irresponsibility of the Chareidim.

As per Dr. Backon, he was trying to take revenge at Hadassah for firing him last year for “inappropriate behaviors” with his patients. He was also trying to do a favor for a fellow “Chareidi” mother.

    Hameracheim Al Achzarim…..

  7. I just had a thought: a saving grace for Dr. Yaakov Weill. If he now realises that this case was too much for him to handle then at least he is now admitting this is so.
Some people prefer to hide their incompetence.

  8. I think more likely his conscience wouldn’t let him rest. This woman is returning to her children based on his word. That’s a big responsibility. If on the off chance that he is wrong and something happens to one of the children he would be responsible for it. He isn’t saying that the woman has Munchausen, just that he doesn’t feel that he is qualified to make the evaluation. He doesn’t want the responsibility on his shoulders when he doesn’t feel that they are wide enough to carry it. Most likely he took the case originally because he was asked to and if he can help another Yid then why not. But as a professional he has to look at the whole picture. Yes his actions may have caused irreparable damage to the case by coming out at this stage of the game, but I don’t think a person would risk his livelihood and his good name just for some money, however large the sum. Generally people value their good name over money.

  9. Everyone here seems to have ideological driven agendas that never address questions of the child’s welfare – at least none of you seem to address the issue.

Isn’t it pashut that if there is a reasonable doubt as to the child’s safety that custody of the child should be temporarily be given to child welfare authorities? What I get from the YWN entries is that the child has become a pawn in a larger hoshkofa war.

if you think it was possible that he was bribed, then you should also accept the possibility that his life was threatened (or at least the quality of his life)

He surely knew how the whole of Israel was awaiting his evaluation, so I am sure he took on the job with full professional intent to fulfill what was asked of him by the court. (not just to ‘help another yid’ as you suggest).

  11. This dr is a right old idiot succumbing to the false pressures of police and co who did not approve his diagnosis. but dr i’m sorry you can’t pull back now otherwise you should/would have originaly said your not sure. this so called dr must be evaluated and arrested.

  12. Itis funny that whoever testifies againts the Israei Govt. allways has second thoughts.
It is not the doctor who is playing games. His diagnosis is very embarssing to the Israeli Gov’t., police, Hadassah, and public presses.
Do you think the Gov’t here would let his diagnosis go though? We are truly in Golus.

  13. His professional career was threatened, if he didn’t kowtow to the medical establishment.

His independent evaluation was a threat that had to be eliminated.

Now, the mother will be deemed incompetent to control the fate of her chiold, and the malpractice coverup will be successful.

WHERE IS HEALTH MINISTER YAAKOV LITZMAN. WHY DOESN’T HE STOP THIS?

  14. “אינני רומז בזה שהגברת י’ מהווה סכנה כל שהיא לילדיה”
“I don’t Implicit with this that (the mother) is any danger for her children “
Somehow this line of the doctors letter about that he redrawing from his first report, did not appear in this article posted first by the anti-Semitic Ynet.

  15. To #10 Artchill

The JPost article clearly states that Dr. Yaakov Weill is not Orthodox and was chosen by the prosecution to examine the woman.

Why are you blaming the the Charedim for this?

  16. Psychiatric diagnoses are usually not as clear as physiological diagnoses.

    For Example:
Upon examining someone’s blood, a lab can determine that there are too many white blood cells. But a doctor must look at the big picture to determine WHY the body is producing too many white blood cells. Treating a problem without rooting out the Cause, is a waste of precious time and resources.

When it comes to pediatric failure to gain weight, the reason can be biological or emotional.

For example, in cystic fibrosis pancrease can not reach the stomach to metabolize fats. The result is a child who is not thriving due to a physical medical problem. I have seen a case where invasive means were administered to provide nutrition, and the hospital never did a “sweat test” for CF.

A Bikur Cholim volunteer in New York was the one who recognized this omission, the test was done, and the kid was finally able to get treated for the real problem.

In other cases, a parent, due to high anxiety, can become obsessed with their child’s weight. The pressure on the child to eat, can create a control issue between the parent and child. The result is a child who deals with the anxiety by not eating. The result is a child who is not thriving due to an emotional problem.

In the second type of case, any such suggestion is often met with denial by the parents. Understandably, they feel blamed and get defensive. The hostility that is triggered makes it far more difficult to get to the root of the problem in a way that can actually promote healing. Sadly, children all over the world have paid the ultimate price while outsiders observed the toxic situation with their hands tied.

A doctor must indeed have chochma to know medicine, bina to understand his patient, sechel to know how to present the problem in a productive manner, and above all Siyata Dishmaya to get it all together.
