Israel Earns a Gold in Chemistry Olympiad


The 41st International Chemistry Olympiad was held in Cambridge, UK. The IChO as it is called spans the natural sciences and provides a basis of so much of the progress in both the physical and life sciences. “The International Chemistry Olympiad is second to none in its ability to communicate and explore chemistry with others and provides the ideal forum for a truly international occasion” the event website describes.

17-year-old Assaf Meuda from Pardes Chana earned a gold medal. Avitar Degani, 15, the youngest member of the Israeli delegation earned a bronze medal. The two attend the same Chadera high school.

Assaf studies physics and computer science received a 100 in his mathematic matriculation exam. He is involved in a project involving the Technion University in Haifa.

Two other members of the Israeli team did not earn any medals.
