Military officials are signaling concern, citing “Hizbullah activity” along Israel’s northern border related to the explosion in the terror army’s Katyusha rocket warehouse about two weeks ago.

The explosion sent a signal to the international community that Hizbullah continues to ignore Second Lebanon War ceasefire agreement, UN Resolution 1701, which prohibits Hizbullah from storing rockets south of the Litani River. The explosion compelled a UN Security Council meeting after the United States went into action, a move that may lead to an expanded UNIFIL force in southern Lebanon, a reality that is contrary to Hizbullah interests.

Hizbullah has blamed the explosion on Israel, but there has been no response from officials in Jerusalem.

Intelligence community officials feel Hizbullah is still seeking an opportunity to strike at Israel in a retaliatory move for the car bomb death of its second in command, Imad Mughniyeh, an attack blamed on Israel as well. Intelligence officials feel Hizbullah is also pressured to make a move to regain some measure of deterrence and to signal to its followers that it is still capable of confronting Israel.

Senior IDF officials have held consultations since the explosion in the Katyusha factory, and the northern border situation is being monitored carefully.
