Some 500 people participated in this past shabbos’ protest against the opening of the Karta parking lot by Jerusalem City Hall. A number of protestors tried unsuccessfully to block the entrance to the parking lot.

Participants in the protest report police appear to have had orders to ‘aim for the shtreimal’ of protestors, which they believe was not coincidental, but a deliberate police move to punish protestors by destroying their shtreimals, leading to significant financial loss. Protestors however insist they will not be deterred and the shabbos demonstrations will continue until such time the chilul shabbos ends.

Elsewhere in the capital, unruly youths pelted vehicles with rocks on Bar Ilan Street. Two youths were taken into custody. Baruch Hashem there were no injuries. A number of vehicles were damaged.
