Sullivan County Court Judge Frank LaBuda Friday granted temporary permission for the United Talmudic Academy (Satmar / Lapidus Bungalow Colony) to occupy a portion of their new Shul in Bethel for just six weeks, just for religious purposed.
Town officials opposed the occupancy claiming a special use permit was needed in addition to a building permit.
The judge made his decision after he went to the facility and inspected it himself.
In an unrelated case, the state Department of Health ordered Skver to be out of the former Homowack Lodge by Monday.
According to multiple media reports, Skver had opened a girls’ camp weeks ago without a permit and has refused to leave. But, the state Health Department said there are “serious health and safety conditions” at the facility.
The DOH has given the Congregation Bais Trana until Monday to leave the resort, now called Machne Bnos Square.
The department has indicated that if the congregation doesn’t leave, the agency will start a court action to force it off the grounds.
