El Al announced yesterday that it was cancelling an option to buy 8 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, scheduled for delivery in 2014. El Al said it cancelled the order after reviewing it’s future equipment needs and routes.
El Al added that, as part of its streamlining, it had hired a US consultancy firm, which has not yet submitted its recommendations. The cancellation came after the airline cancelled future commitments so that these would not conflict with long-term plans that the consultancy firm will recommend.
El Al said it was keeping its order for two Boeing 777s, which will be delivered in the summer of 2007. In November 2006, El Al took possession a new Boeing 767 for long-haul routes.
