Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) joined the NYPD’s Counterterrorism unit and the NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in hosting an Active Shooter presentation at the Bobover Yeshiva Bnei Zion yesterday, urging the community to “be prepared.”
“We need to do whatever we can in order to protect the community,” Hikind said. This presentation is designed to help prepare our institutions for something we hope never happens. But we have an obligation to keep our communities safe. We can’t just sit back. When people are prepared, have information and know how to deal with something, then you can better deal with active-shooter circumstances.”
Hikind added, “This presentation is great for all parties involved. We thank Bobov for joining us to become more informed on counterterrorism security. With proper training, we’ll be better suited to deal with threats.”
In front of a standing-room crowd of over 100 Bobov administrators and educators, Officer Mathew DiPietro of the Counterterrorism Division’s NYPD SHIELD program presented a slew of videos and statistics. DiPietro’s informative message included the steps to take and the importance of formulating a plan.
“With the help of Sgt. Boyle and Inspector Van Gostein, the next step will be to complete a walkthrough to guide students and administrators alike in terms of what they can expect should an active-shooter situation arise,”
“It’s imperative to be prepared when it comes to an active shooter. You need to take responsibility of your own safety, which means knowing what to do if something like this were to happen,” DiPietro said.
Among those in attendance were Chasky Rosenberg, Yoely Rosenfeld, Rabbis Yankel Zitronembaum, Heshy Dembitzer and Tuli Obstfeld, Officers Fusco, Sgt. Boyle and Inspector Phillip Van Gostein, Assistant Commissioner Ira Tannenbaum and Natan Mandelbaum from OEM, members of the Borough Park Shomrim, including, Coordinator Motti Katz, Meyer Wax and Dovid Gluck.
