Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has ordered to stopped showing movies on Shabbos in the Kiryat Yovel minhal (local government office). The mayor explains he remains committed to maintaining the Shabbos status quo in the city.

The Yuvalim Minhal is the local government office for the area communities including Kiryat Yovel and it is located in Kiryat Yovel.

The airing of movies in that location was brought to the mayor’s attention by the Shas and Yahadut Hatorah parties. The mayor responded, sending the minhal the directive on Wednesday, 4 Teves, to shut down the Shabbos movies.

City Hall officials confirm the report, stressing the administration remains committed to maintaining the Shabbos status quo.
