French Justice Minister Michelle Alliot-Marie plans to file an appeal following light sentences handed down to some of the gang members responsible for the 2006 beating torture death of French Jew Ilan Halimi. 27 gang members were sentenced in the case, some to life in prison, while others received sentences as light as 6 months in prison.
The gang leader was sentenced to life in prison which French authorities explain he will not be eligible for parole for 22 years.
