Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s special emissary negotiating the release of Gilad Shalit, Chaggai Hadas, is heading to Cairo for his first visit since assuming the post. The trip comes following an approximately 4-month hiatus in public efforts towards obtaining the soldier’s release.
No significant progress towards Shalit’s release is expected as a result of this visit, which appears to permit Hadas and the Egyptian to become acquainted with one-another and to permit Hadas to familiarize himself with the status of the talks as they were ended during the previous Olmert administration.
