It was an event that shocked the entire community of Elad on erev shabbos, when friends and neighbors learned that Merav Vizel z”l did not get up in the morning. The mother of seven died in her sleep two days before her 37th birthday. Hatzolah volunteers arrived on the scene and tried to resuscitate her, but a physician eventually pronounced her dead on the scene when it became clear that there was no response. The oldest of the seven children is 13 and the youngest 5.

As is the practice, Israel Police officials demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death, a demand that horrified the family. Zaka officials became involved, but without success. An appeal was made to Deputy Education Minister R’ Meir Porush, who succeeded in persuading police to cancel the demand for an autopsy. The levaya took place on erev shabbos during the afternoon hours in the Yarkon Cemetery.

Her husband Aaron runs an electric store in the community, and is well-known in the community.
