A number of weeks ago, dozens of bicycle riders met in northern Bnei Brak near Kiryat Herzog and held a bicycle race on Shabbos R”L in the Torah city. Following that unfortunately event, Mayor Chanoch Zeibert worked to prevent a reoccurrence. Last week, it was written in the chareidi media that due to the efforts of the Bnei Brak mayor, the trend is halted and there would not be bike races in the city in the future on Shabbos.
However, this past Shabbos, Parshas Vayeishev, there was another bicycle race. The daily Yated Neeman responded angrily and Hamodia stood firmly behind the efforts of the city’s mayor.
The city’s Shabbos vaad is calling on the mayor to fence off the area in question to prevent yet another repeat of this past Shabbos.
Hamodia adds that Zeibert met with relevant officials on motzei Shabbos towards taking the necessary measures to bring an end to the public chilul Shabbos.
Hamodia adds that on erev Shabbos, city inspectors arrived at the area to make sure there would not be a race on Shabbos but during the Shabbos afternoon hours, when the race was held, the inspectors were busy dealing with a security-related matter and were therefore prevented from acting to prevent the bicycles.
