Sullivan County To Hire Consultant To Review Plans For New County Jail

jail1.jpgMonticello, NY – Sullivan County is one step closer to signing a contract with a consultant firm to review plans for a new Sullivan County Jail.

The County Legislature sitting as the Executive Committee Thursday approved a resolution, authorizing Fanslau to sign an agreement with Zubatkin Owner Representation, LLC, to evaluate the work completed to date, schedule the project’s development, and assess all project issues as far as the construction of a new jail in the Town of Thompson.

“Right now the only process the county has in place is with an architect and a construction management firm that reports to the architect,” said County Manager David Fanslau. “This gives us a fresh set of eyes that has experience with building projects and mechanical engineering and structural engineering, and value cost engineering to really give information back to the county manager and to the county legislature as to where the project is heading and make some suggestions as to what can be done differently to reduce the overall cost of the project.”

The resolution approves up to $60,000 for the review. Fanslau said the peer review process will begin immediately after legislative approval.
