At about 7:00pm on Wednesday evening, Magen David Adom and Hatzolah received a call for a hit-and-run in the Ramot Polin area of Yerushalayim. To the horror of the first responders, they arrived on Wallerstein Street to find a carriage strewn on the sidewalk and a baby and caretaker on the ground, the apparent victims of the incident.
The 18-month-old was unconscious, and the 25-year-old caretaker was injured, but not seriously. Hatzolah responders began efforts to stabilize the baby while MDA paramedics continued responding. Together they did what the situation permitted to stabilize the young girl’s condition, then transporting to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital trauma unit. The caretaker was transported there as well, listed in light condition.
The toddler, Sarah Shira bas Leah Malka, remains on a respirator in very serious condition. Tefillos are requested.
The driver responsible for their injuries fled, but police did receive a description of the vehicle, setting up roadblocks. The vehicle was apprehended in Meah Shearim, and soon afterward, the 19-year-old chareidi driver was in custody. It was learned that he does not have a license, but decided to take a vehicle belonging to a friend in Bet Yisrael. He headed for Ramot where he apparently lost control of the vehicle and went up onto a sidewalk. He will be remanded in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

This sick and disturbed young man belongs in jail for a long, long time. Let’s say 50 years or so. Should give him some time to consider what he did. He’ll get out at age 69, hopefully by then he will understand what he did.
May the baby and caretaker have a refuoh sleimoh bez”h.
we should hear bsuros tovos about the baby.
#1 you should know that the accident wasn’t a hit and run, this was made up by the secular newspapers who always try to catch charedim at wrongdoing. True it was a mistake of the driver to drive without a license, but he got of the car right after he hit the baby and called hatzolo and stayed with the infant untill helped arrived. just so you should know, his shirt was drenched in blood!!!!!!! so don’t believe everything they tell you in newspapers!!!!11
Even someone who has a license and is qualified to drive has to very careful driving in those narrow, curvy streets.
