It is now being reported that during last week’s meetings in Paris, French President Nicolas Sarkozy had harsh words of criticism for Kadima leader Tzipi Livni, who heads the opposition.
The daily Yisrael HaYom reports that during one meeting attended by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and senior officials, the French leader questioned the wisdom of the opposition leader who remains adamant to remain in opposition, rejecting continued and repeated calls to enter into the ruling coalition.
The French leader reportedly stated that it’s about doing what is good for the country, not all about politics, adding the mounting criticism and waning popularity of Livni at home.
Aides to Livni responded to the remarks by placing the blame for her remaining in opposition on the prime minister, explaining he is unwilling to agree to basic issues and to establish a government in which Likud, Labor and Kadima all have equal say.
