As the coalition works to move forward with the so-called Mofaz Law, which permits seven MKs to break away from a party to form a new political entity instead of the current required one-third of the party, Kadima MK Shaul Mofaz insists he has no plans of breaking away to join the coalition.
Mofaz on Sunday morning told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) host Razi Barkai that he does not plan to move to the coalition with a handful of members from his party, but he is working to bring Kadima into the coalition. He explained that in his opinion, party leader Tzipi Livni is a nice person to sit and have coffee with but she is not a leader, unable to make decisions, stating “this is not in a club”.
He explained that he continues to see the importance of joining the coalition towards achieving two main objectives, the changing of the current form of government and moving ahead with the political process vis-à-vis negotiations with Israel’s neighbors. Mofaz believes that a Palestinian state with temporary borders must be created as quickly as possible, committed to America’s two-state solution, adding that permanent borders can be mapped out in the future. The temporary state Mofaz believes will bring a sudden end to the controversy that exists and permit negotiations towards stability in the future.
He stressed that today, 16 years after the signing of the Oslo Accords, the progress is slow and we need to move ahead. “I first of all address my remarks to the government and secondly to my party, that Kadima must join such a coalition to change the current realties”, he added with confidence along with his assessment that most of Kadima’s MKs will support his call for a temporary PA state.
