Moshe Zakheim President Of COJO Flatbush Endorses Bloomberg For Mayor

blo.jpgToday, Moshe Zakheim, President of the Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO) of Flatbush, endorsed the Mayor’s bid for re-election. COJO is a multi-faceted agency with over 200 affiliate-member organizations that provide advocacy and a broad range of social services to Brooklyn residents.

“Mayor Bloomberg has demonstrated, through his keen leadership during his two terms in office, his ability to navigate the City during difficult situations – especially now – in today’s challenging times,” said Mr. Zakheim. “He has successfully brought New York City’s crime rate to an unprecedented low level not seen in many decades, and continues to keep vital City services running, even in this challenging economic situation.  I am happy to stand by Mayor Bloomberg in support of his re-election.”

“I am grateful to have the support of Moshe and many of his fellow community members,” said Mayor Bloomberg.  “Moshe has worked hard with my Administration to get things accomplished for both the Jewish and non-Jewish community of Flatbush.  We continue to be pro-active with our policing, witnessing a 27% reduction in crime in Brooklyn over the last seven years, and to help small business owners succeed with low interest loans and free counseling through our NYC Business Solutions Centers – which has served more than 7,000 businesses in Brooklyn alone.  As Mayor, I constantly work with community leaders, like Moshe, to make sure their concerns do not fall on deaf ears.”

Mike’s leadership has brought the City’s crime rate down to its lowest point in over forty years.  Crime is down nearly 30% since he took office and, according to FBI data, New York City is now the safest big city in the nation.  Mike has continued to drive crime down, an additional 12% so far this year, while also working to bring groups of diverse communities closer together.  Mayor Bloomberg has also taken steps to combat a challenging economy with his Five Borough Economic Opportunity Plan which will create or retain 400,000 jobs citywide. Mayor Bloomberg opened a Workforce1 training center in Brooklyn, which has already placed more than 15,000 people in jobs, and created the Flatbush-Nostrand Junction business improvement district (BID).  With plans to develop the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Mike will be creating 1,700 new permanent jobs, about 700 of which will be “green” industry jobs, as well as an additional 800 construction jobs.

In addition to drastically lowering crime and providing services to businesses and job-seekers, Mike also created 311 so that people can access their local government services with one easy phone call. Since its inception, New Yorkers have called 311 more than 74 million times to access services, find out information, and register complaints.

  1. I spoke to I think Rabbi Moshe Zakheim from COJO & he told me that COJO did not endorse Mike Bloomberg for Mayor as they have a policy not to endorse anyone running for Public Office. It’s possible that some people on the COJO Board may have endorsed him but COJO as an organization did not endorse Bloomberg or anyone for Mayor.
