Shas MK Nissim Ze’ev created a considerable stir during a Monday meeting of the Knesset Committee on the Status of Women in his remarks pertaining to female IDF soldiers. He stated the soldiers must “learn how to behave” in his reference to the females in the military.
While the committee was addressing harassment of females in the military, Ze’ev stated that some women may interpret certain actions as harassment while others would view the same action as a compliment.
Officially, there were 360 complaints of harassment filed by women in the IDF last year but most feel that does not reflect reality, stating the number is much much higher.
MK (Likud) Tzipi Hotovely stated we must be careful not to turn the victim into the guilty party, adding that Ze’ev, a frum Jew, must be aware that halacha prohibits such actions.
