A 14-year-old is being questioned in the stabbing of a 15-year-old on the grounds of the Lakewood Middle School this afternoon, the Asbury Park Press reports.
Police were called to the scene at approximately noon when a school groundskeeper discovered the victim with three stab wounds in his upper chest/shoulder area, authorities said.
The victim was flown via medevac helicopter from an athletic field behind the Somerset Avenue school to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to authorities at the scene. Deputy Chief Michael Mohel, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, said the stab wounds are not life-threatening.
Lakewood school board attorney Michael Inzelbuch said the stabbing occurred after the school day ended at noon. Today was the last day of the school year.
Lakewood Police Chief Rob Lawson said no other students or staff were placed in danger at any time.
The middle school graduation will be held as planned this evening, but has been moved from outdoors to inside Lakewood High School because of the threat of rain, officials said.
