As Mr. & Mrs. Noam Shalit, the parents of captive soldier Gilad, prepare to mark his third anniversary in captivity on June 25th, Gilad’s sister, Hadas, prepares to enter the IDF in the summer.
Completing her studies in the Manor Cavri High School as did her brother, Hadas opted to serve in a year of public service in a Jerusalem school, and as this winds down, she is preparing to enter the IDF this summer. According to the daily Yisrael HaYom, she first planned to serve in Galei Tzahal (Army Radio), having completed a number of interviews, but now, she has decided to serve in a different unit.
Students from Hadas’ class told the media that the situation today is an “embarrassment to the nation” and a “blow to the national pride,” with others stating “we already know ahead of our enlistment that if taken prisoner, the government can abandon us”.
