Senator Simcha Felder is urging the community to get their flu shots as soon as possible in preparation for the winter. To encourage people to get their flu shots, Senator Felder’s office is providing the shots at no-cost to the community.
“Each winter we hear about so many people who get the flu. They are forced to take off time from work and miss family simchas,” said Senator Felder. “I am urging everyone to take care of their health and the health of their family. Don’t wait! Get a flu shot right away!”
“I am very grateful to the staff at Maimonides for working with my office to provide this excellent service,” Felder continued. “Hopefully, with G-d’s help, this year we will be able to protect many people from this awful illness.”
Anyone who needs a flu shot must make an appointment at Senator Felder’s Borough Park office. To schedule an appointment for Thursday, November 12th, call (718) 253-2015 or (718) 484-3216.

Why rush? Unless you are unhealthy, not much point to getting flu shot so early. It was only 23% effective last year.
#1, because if you don’t, you stand a chance of not being very healthy much longer. The flu shot is a vaccine not a cure. Once you get the flu without a shot getting a shot won’t help.
And every year the effectiveness is not necessarily known before the season. Last year it might have been 23% (do you have any citation to back that number up), this year it might be 90%.
Personally I don’t think it is the role of any politician to advice the public on such a matter at all. Felder is out of bounds here. This is a matter between each citizen and his CV physician, and is not the job of any politician.
My mother gets the shot every year, and gets sick almost every year. We all know there are risks associated with the shot, and as I said, this should be discussed with one’s doctor, and does not involve Felder at all.
The CDC actually gave the 23% number. They are anticipating this year’s vaccine to be a better guess. Generally, they expect the vaccine to be around 50% effective. So just because you get the vaccine DOESN’T mean you won’t get the flu.
Anyway, I was responding to the article’s tone, which seems to convey urgency.
