Wednesday, 15 Cheshvan brought rainfall to many areas of Israel, rainfall that is expected to continue until Thursday afternoon. While rainfall is a welcome reality at this time of year, for some, blocked and inadequate sewers have led to disaster, as is seen in the photos and video for residents of Herzliya.
The rainfall which began on Sunday morning 12 Cheshvan left 200,000 Israelis in the dark. Israel Electric Company officials promised to have power restored by noon on Monday. However, for thousands, the power was only restored on Wednesday morning. Then, a short time later the rain resumed and 15,000 residents of the Sharon region found themselves in the dark once again.
The rain has resulted in many road closures and there are flash flood warnings in place in low-lying areas. In Ra’anana on Wednesday, 250 students were trapped in their school which flooded. Students and teachers were instructed to move to the second floor of the building.
Emergency responders were called in Kfar Saba too, having to rescue people from cars as the water level rose. Damage from the storm in Ra’anana is reportedly significant.
