In keeping with his promise, Deputy Health Minister (Yahadut HaTorah) Yaakov Litzman began making unannounced visits to hospitals. Earlier in the week, Litzman arrived at Soroka Medical Center at 2:00AM, speaking with the staff and getting a look at realities at Israel’s southern medical center, the major medical facility responsible for trauma and other care for the area.
Litzman spoke with patients waiting for care, with one woman with a heart condition explaining she waited almost four hours for treatment. The medical center’s deputy director also met with Litzman, discussing the need for additional budgeting during busy hours.
At the end of the 90-minute visit, Litzman expressed satisfaction with the medical center, stressing this was the first of what promises to be surprise visits to all of the nation’s hospitals.
