Bloomberg Responds To Hikind Regarding Holocaust Memorial

bloomberg2.jpgBrooklyn, NY – It is appropriate that a Holocaust memorial in Brooklyn honor victims of Nazi atrocities other than Jews because “We don’t value one group more than any other,” Mayor Bloomberg declared yesterday.

“It’s not only Jews that were massacred,” he said in response to Assemblyman Dov Hikind’s demand that the Sheepshead Bay memorial’s remaining blank stones commemorate the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust — and no other victims.

Bloomberg noted that the memorial was outside Hikind’s district and that the local Assemblyman, Steve Cymbrowitz, supported the mayor’s position.

Hikind, in turn, ripped Bloomberg for acting now, in an election year, on an issue that’s been brewing since 1997 and added: “I don’t know how many people in his family died in the gas chambers. My grandparents, my uncles, my aunts [did].”

The Parks Department, which owns the memorial site, plans to commemorate all Nazi victims, including the disabled, Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses and political prisoners, as well as Jews.

  1. Now Bloomberg is an apologist? What is wrong with him, personally, valuing his own people just like the members of the other groups value the memories more of their own members? There is nothing wrong with that. I guess Bloomberg is slipping deeper into being a politician

  2. Mr Bloomberg the jews were singeld out to be murderd killed starved gased you named it the jews got it, and you have the nerve to put the jews with other groups shame on you politician you are just like the new president. are muslims included in this holocaust? they too cleam to be in a holocaust

  3. The Mayor is pandering. Sad to do it with such a volatile issue as the Holocaust. His credibility is being diminished every time he fails to do the right thing for his political necessities.
The old Mike would have stepped up. The old Rudy would have stepped up. I must give Dov Hikind credit for not withering to political correctness and saying and doing the right thing. The murder of any human being is tragic and the Holocaust is without a doubt the greatest black mark on the century. That others died besides the 6 million is not in question. That they were murdered is horrific as well But to use a memorial designed for Jews as a way to further the political agenda of certain movements (Gay) is in bad taste.
Dov is correct and the Mayor is simply wrong.
