Bobover Yeshiva in Monsey has settled a claim that it violated town regulations when a calf was Shecthed in its back yard, WCBSTV reports.
The Town of Ramapo, in Rockland County, has accepted a $5,000 fine from the Bobover Yeshiva.
The school’s director has apologized. Rabbi Gershon Bornfreund said there was a miscommunication between the school and a young man who was studying Hilchos Shechita.
Neighbors in the upscale area said they were horrified when they looked out their windows on May 4. They saw young men slaughtering the cow with knives, decapitating it and hanging it from a tree.
Police said parts of the cow, including its head and intestines, were stored in a children’s classroom.
