The general strike scheduled in all Jerusalem public schools for today, Monday 29 Tishrei, has been called off as an agreement was reached.
Mayor Nir Barkat and the city’s PTA agreed to call the strike due to the lack of security in the city’s schools. The agreement was announced shortly after midnight.
The national government finances security guards for schools until 13:30. The mayor and PTA feel the national government must pay for security for the entire school day, leading to the strike.
In accordance with the agreement, security guards will remain in schools until 16:30 and additional security will be provided to kindergartens in seam line areas.
As such, Jerusalem schools are set to open on scheduled this morning.
