[YWN PHOTO LINK BELOW] Tens of thousands of supporters of Israel crowded New York’s Fifth Avenue on Sunday as part of the annual parade celebrating the birth of the Jewish state in 1948.
This year’s parade also commemorated the centenary of the city of Tel Aviv. One person wore I (heart) Tel Aviv T-shirts, and another group rolled a giant birthday cake up the avenue.
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai was an honorary grand marshall and donned a pair of “100” glasses in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the largest city in Israel.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. David Paterson led off the parade, followed by floats blasting Israeli pop music and teenagers from yeshivas and Jewish day schools.
The parents of captured IDF Soldier Gilad Shalit were welcomed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who was grand marshall of the parade, as well as a number of senators. Bloomberg received a pin saying “Free Gilad” from Noam, and wore it during the march.
The Salute To Israel parade began in 1964, when thousands of Jews gathered to walk down Riverside Drive together in a show of support for the tiny country.

WHY IN THE WORLD are half these pictures of neturei karta????? hello….. even if yeshivaworld doesn’t want to take a side in the Zionist debate, at least dont portray the extremists!! show some nice pictures of kids marching, or yiddishe things. dont let politics get embroiled into this.
Its a shame the frum yeshivas don’t go. Whether or not we believe its right we should be there, the more people the better. Bigger kidush Hashem

#2: The reason the Yeshiva’s don’t go, is because the Roshei Yeshiva’s shlitta’s are opposed to both the parade and what it represents.
I’m not sure why you have to show pictures of a few self hating jews!they come to these parades just to make it to the news.

Kiddush Hashem means that Hashem is proud of you because you are honoring his name by doing what is right! Not that the goyim or the Poshei Yisroel are proud!
There are a number of reasons why chareidi yeshivos don’t participate. The first and foremost being they are anti zionist. Not neturei karta style which is extreme but rather anti zionist ideology including both secular and religious zionism. Secondly the parade and concert that follows are huge gatherings of men woman & children which create a major problem with tznius both with taruvos and lack of tznius in dress code especially when the weather is hot. Thirdly, I’ve heard over from one of todays great R”Y’s that any gathering of yidden which is not for the express purpose of kovod shomayim is wrong (said regarding concerts with separate seating, kal v’chomer this gathering of pritzus)

There were thouands of people at the parade:marchers & spectators; frum & and not so… and everyone in-between; jews and many gentiles. All were there to show support for Israel. All having a good time and enjoying the event and the beautiful day. Why did you see fit to spoil the memory by showing an unrepresentative number of pictures of the ugliest people in our faith. Their numbers were perhaps a dozen, as compared to thousands of supporters. They are incosequential. by giving them about half of your galary space, you implied that their numbers there were greater than they actually were. This was a lie. This was not responsible journalism. To all the chareidim, yeshivish, chassidim and otherwise frumacs out there, if you had attended, you could have helped shape the format. …had separate seating …your people could have been examples of tznious … and perhaps have done some kiruv. You blew it.
Sorry Gary L. but we didn’t blow anything. The Roshei Yeshiva weigh the bittul torah versus the possible “ROSHAM” that this parade makes on the world.I don’t that President Obama will change his policy position based on how many people show up at a parade, especially when his “Israeli” Chief of Staff is willing to divide Yerushalyim and accept a 2 state solution.
I don’t understand the mindset of those people who bash everyone who participates in the Salute to Israel Parade, or people who celebrate Yom Ha’Atzmaut. Yes, many things are against the Torah altz pritzus and other things. However, in the world we live in, for every other country to see that Klal Yisrael is divided so much, and that they barely, almost never, unite for a cause such as the Salute to Israel Parade, is just awful. That’s why so many different sects of Judaism don’t respect one another, and that’s exactly what the Goyim are going to use as an open to side with the Arabs or any other nation that stands against us. It’s very important for Yeshiva bochurim to learn; however, when Klal Yisrael needs to unite as one, no matter what denomination you are a member of, then Yeshiva bochurim should, and must, participate. I’m not saying that they should go to every event that might have pritzus galore; but a rally in Washington, or any other place, is not k’neged the Torah. The goyim aren’t looking at how much Torah we learn; they’re looking at our middos and derech eretz, and especially, our Achdus! So those who want to be grateful for being able to travel and settle freely in Eretz Yisrael should NOT be yelled at, made fun of, or be told that they are abominable people who deserve to be punished. Rather, let them carry out their duty to show the nations around us that they stand with and support the State of Israel, and, B’Ezras HaShem, HaShem will grant us allies who will side with us against all who wish to destroy us!
