Deciding to give a chizuk to the chareidi community of Jerusalem’s Kiryat Yovel neighborhood, Maran Rav Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita visited the area this week.

The community continues to grow, despite protests, but there is still much opposition to the shul on Ulsvenger Street. Opponents to the chareidi shul are at times unruly, and the secularists have formed an action committee which is deciding on a course of action. They claim the shul is illegal and that police and City Hall are turning a blind eye.

When Maran Rav Shteinman arrived, his presence provided a major chizuk for the chareidim in the area, who feel that require more than a modicum of mesirus nefesh to endure the opposition, from neighbors who simply reject their presence in the area. They stated that while they may be room for compromise regarding the eruv, there can be no compromise regarding the shul.
