Following the fatal Shomron shooting attack that claimed the lives of Rabbi Eitam and Mrs. Na’ama Henkin HY”D, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon the following day, Friday, 19 Tishrei, visited the IDF Shomron Command and areas including the site of the attack between Itamar and Elon Moreh. The minister was accompanied by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkott and ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yoram Cohen.
IDF Chief of Intelligence Major-General Nitzan Alon briefed Ya’alon as did Yehuda & Shomron Division Commander Brigadier-General Lior Carmi, the head of the IDF Civil Administration Brigadier-General David Menachem and Shomron Brigade Commander Colonel Shai Kelfer.
Ya’alon told the press that there are many troops operating in the area at present, both the IDF and ISA as efforts continue to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the murders. He spoke of the outbreak of violence that is not related to Har Habayis and the unfortunate incitement accompanying the fragile situation by the PA (Palestinian Authority). He used the opportunity to call on the leaders and residents of communities throughout Yehuda and Shomron to act responsibility and not take the law into one’s own hands. He also expressed his condolences of the families of the victims.
