28 Iyar – A Day of Significance

Friday, 28 Iyar is the yahrzeit of Shmuel HaNavi.

It also marks 105 years since the aliyah of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook Z”TL. In that year, it also fell on erev Shabbos and the Rav gave his first shiur in the Jaffa area of Tel Aviv, opting to speak in Hebrew, permitting Sephardim to understand as well. He shiur was reportedly well accepted and participants stated the new rav exhibited promise.

The day is also marked as Yom Yerushalayim, the day on which IDF paratroopers liberated Jerusalem from Jordanian occupation in the June 1967 Six Day War.
