MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Moshe Gafne, who happens to head the Knesset Finance Committee, does not appear to be anxious to comply with a landmark decision of the High Court of Justice, to make retroactive payment to Israel’s Reform Movement for its conversion program as well as equal funding in the future, the same received by Orthodox institutions.
 
Gafne told the J. Post the Reform Movement is not “a legitimate branch of Judaism”, calling them “treacherous backstabbers” and vowing to block any attempt to release funds towards complying with the court ruling.
 
Gafne also accuses the nation’s highest court of “interfering” in matters that are the sole jurisdiction of legislators.
