Mr. Noam Shalit, the father of captive IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, visited Hagon Rav Elyashiv Shlita today, Tuesday. The visit to the Gadol HaDor comes amid reports that Hamas is threatening to kill the soldier due to the frozen political process with Israel.
Accompanied by Justice Minister Prof. Yaakov Ne’eman, Mr. Shalit arrived at Maran’s home at 1:15PM. Prof. Ne’eman spoke with the Rav, explaining the situation pertaining to Gilad. He mentioned recent Hamas threats to kill the soldier. Ne’eman requested that the Gadol HaDor daven on behalf of the soldier, Gilad ben Aviva.
Mr. Shalit arrived and asked for a bracha, explaining over recent days, he has been extremely ill at ease due to Hamas’ renewed threat to murder his son. He asked Rav Elyashiv to daven on Gilad’s behalf and to seek to influence the government to negotiate his release. Rav Elyashiv reportedly gave a warm bracha and promised to daven on Gilad’s behalf.
Next month, 25 June, will mark three years since Gilad was taken captive by Hamas in a cross border terror attack in the Kerem Shalom area.
