The Knesset Education Committee on Sunday, 7 Tishrei, discussed the ongoing strike in Israel’s Christian sector schools, which has yet to open for the new school year. The representatives of the Christian sector schools are demanding hundreds of millions of shekels to bridge the gap in Education Ministry funding. The strike pertains to private yet ‘recognized’ schools funded by the state, serving Israel’s Christian population. The strike impacts 33,000 students and their teachers.
Parents of students in these schools explain they are paying astronomical tuition because of the lack of state funding for the schools and they are not willing to continue paying this year since they feel the schools are entitled to additional government assistance.

One Response
As long as the schools are supporting the Israeli position (as opposed to covering up the persecution of Christians in Muslim countries), the Israelis should be “bending over backwards” to support them. If Israel is perceived as supporting Christians in the Middle East, it will have a very strong impact in the United States, and if Israel is seen as indifferent to local Christians, it will undermine support for Israel abroad.
