Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday morning expressed his support for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In a Wednesday morning visit to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) office in Bet Lechem, the pontiff expressed his support for the establishment of such a state, permitting “Palestinians to a national homeland”.
The message released stated “The Holy See supports the right of your people to a sovereign Palestinian homeland in the land of your forefathers, secure and at peace with its neighbors, within internationally recognized borders.”
The pope spoke of their suffering over the past decades and the many families that lost so much.
Thousands of PA security forces were on hand to maintain order during the papal visit as an open air theater production was staged along the separation border for the visiting dignitary.
On Thursday, the pope will hold mass in Nazareth as well as holding a meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

A “homeland” isn’t a “state” (cf. Balfour Declaration). He’s trying to “walk on both sides of the street” (which is what politicians are good at).
the palestinians already have a state, probably twice the size of Israel, it’s called Jordan.
anybody care to remember??????????????
I agree. We should have a Palestinian state. Wait, we DO have a Palestinian state – Trans-Jordan.

yemach shmo v’zichrono!
Maybe the pope wants to invite the so called ‘Palestinians’ to live in Vatican City?
The pope seems to forget how the Islamics act in Italy; he should take a look outside his golden gates once and a while.
As for a ‘Palestinian’ State; there is no such thing as a Palestinian, so why do these people need a state? They are subjects of Jordan, let them move over the border and have their King pay the bills!
