Magen David Adom blood bank officials’ are calling on Israelis to step forward and donate a unit of blood as there is a nationwide shortage. MDA has launched a special pre-yomtov blood drive that began on Tuesday 24 Elul until Sunday erev Rosh Hashanah.

There is a shortage of blood for hospital patients and this has resulted in postponing elective surgeries. The critical shortage is type ‘O’ and all blood types with a negative Rh factor. Anyone donating a unit is automatically insured if s/he requires blood in the coming year as well as first line relatives.
