US Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller called on Israel to join the nations that have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The US official also called on North Korea, India and Pakistan to sign as well.

Israel has rejected the call, seeking an explanation as to why Jerusalem should sign a treaty that has proven to be less than effective and why steps to prevent nations like Iran from obtaining nuclear independence are not taken.
