On his first official visit to Europe, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told Italian leaders that “Israel yearns for peace and will continue working towards peace”. The minister explained Israel is seeking a solution that will result in peace and stability in the region while not compelling Israel to compromise her security and defense interests.
Lieberman explained the current administration has been in office for a mere five weeks, and therefore, he cannot speak of detailed plans at present. He told his hosts that his first official visit is to Italy in a showing of gratitude for the warm relations maintained between the two countries.
“I am certain the Netanyahu government will achieve peace with the Palestinians and other neighbors,” stressing he is more interested in “tangible results than slogans and statements”.
Lieberman told his hosts he feels Italy can play a vital role in mediating between Israel and moderate Arab states in the region; further highlighting his trip is not just to permit himself to be heard, but to listen to what European leaders have to say as well.
