Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah of Agudas Yisrael Opposes Regional Registration

moetThe Moetzas Gedolei Hatorah of Agudas Yisrael is opposed to regional registration for girl’s high schools. This refers to registration based on the location of a school, which would be compelled to accept all of the girls in that community. This would eliminate the testing and screening process in the frum girl’s high schools.

In a letter released by council’s secretary Rav Mordechai Stern, dated 12 Elul, the admorim shlita explain that they convened and reached a decision opposing such a policy, citing the policy that has been in place for years and approved by Gedolei Hador ZT”L ZY”A must continue without change.

  1. The proposed policy would end the growing number of incidents of arbitrary discrimination against individual girls because some Rosh Yeshiva doesn’t like her parent’s hashkafah or her father may have offended some of the Askanim linked to the school or some other nonsensical reason. These rabbonim provide no reason for opposing this long overdue nondiscrimination policy other than “that’s the way it was done in the past and we must continue that policy going forward”. Even it this policy arguably made sense in the past (which it didn’t) it certainly should not be perpetuated in to the future.

  2. Explain the differences, can’t a young lady decide which Beis yakov she wants to attend depending on location, curriculum, etc.? & WHY NOT?
