On Wednesday August 19, 2015, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 553 Cold Spring Road in the Town of Thompson to assist state parole officers with a domestic dispute involving a parolee. At the location, deputies discovered that one of the parties to the dispute, Kristina Morgan, 28, of Jeffersonville, had an outstanding arrest warrant for petit larceny. Morgan was caught on camera shoplifting at the Dollar General store on RT-52 in Jeffersonville on August 8, 2015. Kristina Morgan was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for processing, where she became combative and was placed in a holding cell.
While in the cell, Morgan was able to retrieve a cigarette lighter from a body cavity and attempted to set the wooden bench in the cell on fire. A deputy at the front desk smelled something burning and found Morgan with the lighter when he went to investigate.
A struggle ensued when the deputy attempted to take the lighter away from the defendant resulting in an injury to the deputy.
Kristina Morgan was charged with Felony Assault, Arson and petit larceny.
She was arraigned before County Court Judge Michael McGuire and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $2000 bail, pending future court appearances in Callicoon and Monticello.
