YWN POLL IN EXTENDED ARTICLE: [Article moved back to front page after numerous requests] It’s been a busy first 100 days for President Barack Obama. He’s been tackling a steep recession, health care and global warming and trying to revamp America’s image around the world.
Marking his symbolic 100th day in office, President Barack Obama told Midwesterners Wednesday: “I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made but I’m not satisfied.”
“I’m confident in the future but I’m not content with the present,” the president told a town-hall style event in a St. Louis suburb.
How do you rate the performance of U.S. President Barack Obama’s first 100 days?

for americans amazing but for jews not as good
Your choice of scoring adjectives is invalid, as they are incredibly asymmetrical, and they would not pass muster with any polling organization – of any poitical persuasion. That said, however, they do cater quite well to a push poll aimed at a YWN/FOX/Limbaugh readership. BTW – if you look up the issue on Google you will discover that the “worst President ever” label is most often applied – by most people – to Bush II. You guys are so out of touch.
I once read a definition of fundementalist that goes something like this – A religious fundementalist says: “What I believe is the devine word of G-d; therefore, no one can legitimately disagree with me – and one who does is not only wrong – he is evil.” I find it troublesome that so many bloggers here clothe their reactionary politics in Torah, as if no Torah observant Yid could possibly disagree with them without losing their legitimacy as a Jew – I mean, you guys have the inside track on how Hashem wants us to vote on all matter of public issue – and no reasonable person could possibly disagree with you. Evangelical Christans and the Taliban think the same way. Shkoyach to all of you.
Wow, WOlffman, you sure feel strongly about this. I’m glad you’re happy with your president, that’s wonderful. Keep on supporting free speech and debate in the US of A, and enjoy these four years to the fullest!
I would love to know who voted “amazing” 🙂
Wolfman; I like your point. Anonymous proved your point. Anyone who disagrees must be wrong and we should mock him
Over 78% of Bnei Torah find Obama to be poor or worst, including almost 50% who believe him to be the worst ever.
This speaks volumes!
Wolfamann, get a life ur making ur point in order to mock the Torah world. Tell me this, which Gadol officially endorsed Obama? If anything any Kollel or learning person I would assume would have wanted Obama to win cuz he is making wellfare a lot easier to get on to. Now I don’t know if ur a working person or not but if you enjoy getting up every day and working every day for unempoyed individuals who just take tax money to take the easy life(excluding Kollel people who I don’t consider unemployed), if you do Wolfman then I see where your coming from. This guy is worse than Bush what has he done since he has come to office?
Granted I would have put “disgracful” between “poor” and “worst ever.”
A short summary of the first 100 days from askheritage.org …
Economic Policy:
The president’s economic policies have perhaps made the most headlines during his short tenure in office. To date, the president has potentially doubled the national debt by endorsing such legislation as:
•$787 billion “stimulus'” bill, which the CBO projects could cost $3.27 trillion.
•$410 billion earmark-packed omnibus bill; and
•$3.6 trillion budget proposal for FY2010.
Foreign and National Security Policy
When considering the president’s record on foreign and national security policy, let’s not forget his quick action in the rescue of Navy Capt. Richard Phillips from the Somali pirates, or his prudent decision to continue, in large part, the Bush administration’s strategy in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Nevertheless, other administration initiatives temper this good news:
•Shutting down the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba;
•Drastically reducing funding for missile defense, despite increased threats from rogue nations such as North Korea and Iran;
•Cutting the overall defense budget to unsustainable levels, leaving the military without critical new tools and incapable of meeting the growing challenges we face; and
•Going without “a coherent approach to homeland security.”
Social Policy
President Obama has wasted little time in reversing social policies—both longstanding policies and those enacted by his predecessor. Within the first three months of his presidency, he has:
•Discouraged volunteerism by signing a costly national service bill allowing government funding and expansion of Americorps;
•Extended taxpayer financing to abortions abroad; and
•Invited taxpayer funding for controversial embryonic stem cell research.
Many of the president’s proposals, such as eliminating successful school-choice programs for low-income families and rolling back conscience protections for medical professionals, would further undermine civil society.
Sorry Wolfman & CharlieHall but there are facts out there that you who follow the mainstream media – those with tingly feelings running up their legs when they mention The Obama’s name – wont tell you. In fact, I dont recall if it was a Rassmusen or Zogby poll that showed the president at only a 57% approval rating which means somewhere there are 43% who dont think he’s doing the yoman’s job some people think he is doing. Of course if you subscribe to tax and spend policies of the far left, i guess he is doing a good job. Too bad NO ONE becomes rich from socialism.
Wolffman,
I think you need to wait a while before judging Bush 43. As a Conservative, were there things that drove me batty?! You bet! I wish he didnt spend as much as he did. However I am happy for those tax cuts which as is proven over and over bring more revenue into govt coffers.
That being said, his administration (derech ha’teva) kept America safe for the time after 9/11. The days and weeks following 9/11 were difficult and our administration was there to protect us.
The media will tell you we were bad financialy but the truth is we werent. Granted the market tanked following 9/11 but as a nation we prospered from 2002-2007. It was only in the last year of Bush 43 that things went the other way thanks to people like Barney Frank etc.
Wolfman, the Torah makes itself pretty clear on several issues, especially same-gender marriage and abortion. But don’t believe me, look it up yourself.
And why is being “out of touch” with the majority of opinions a bad thing? Some 90% of the world thinks that Judaism is a lie, that the state of Israel follows a policy of apartheid, etc. Google’s word is not the absolute truth – the Torah’s is.
Wikipedia defines fundamentalism as “a belief in, and strict adherence to a set of basic principles (often religious in nature)” Yes, we believe in and strictly adhere to the Torah. That is what defines us as religious jews.
charliehall,
Thanks for chiming in and blaming the Republicans.
I dont know how you think the “economic situation is far less scary than it was last September” because I dont see that. I work in service industry and companies are just not spending like they did. They are ordering a lot less and keeping less in inventory. They are laying off people or giving unpaid vacation whereever possible. The snowballed right after Election Day.
Obama is still in the “cant do anything wrong” mode with most of the USA. The bubble will burst once people start seeing change and is they will only be left with change in their pockets. If CHV we are attacked and he pulls the typical liberal blame Bush hypocrisy, I hope people dont fall for it like they do over and over. However unfortunately, the more you feed people a lie the more they will believe it which is how Yemach Sh’mo was successful.
Granted the far left will stay with Obama no matter what as will most of Obama’s “brothers” for whom its more important that they look at the White House and see someone related to them.
The good news is there is only 1360 days to the Obama headache however the recovery will take generations.
charliehall, I would like to offer a piece of advice, and I know most free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it. Nevertheless, perhaps it’s worth some pixels to mention the following:
You are a professional, and prefer to use intellect-based arguments rather than sarcasm and name calling, which is why I am specifically addressing you and not others who share your views.
When your comments are consistent and unwavering in support of the Democratic Party and associated policies, when one can predict with absolute certainty that a comment from charliehall will not veer from party line and support for same, it compromises the readers’ perception of your earnestness and believability. Your manner of presentation bespeaks a man of intellect (this does not mean I agree with your observations or conclusions), but your single minded and incredibly consistent defense/support belies the thoughtfulness. It is simply not possible, given the myriad ideas, positions, decisions and philosophies represented by the elected men and women of the Democratic party, that a thinking man would wholeheartedly and unreservedly agree with each and every one of them, without exception. Therefore, the comments come across as simply partisan, and command little scrutiny or evaluation of rightness.
I know that if you bother to comment, your intention is that they influence their intended audience (YW readers), or at least give them pause. In order to accomplish this, you would need to demonstrate that your conclusions reflect careful assessment of each issue on its own merits. Such would result in an occasional statement of support for a position that runs counter to party line. Saying that careful assessment would consistently and unerringly result in party line conclusions is simply silly, and I think you are above that. Most of the time, yes. That is why you are a Democrat. Your thoughtful assessment of the parties’ positions and philosophies resulted in a purposeful choice of political alignment. But 100% of the time? That is something else entirely, and compromises the credibility of the supporter.
Of course, the same can be said for those Republicans or Conservatives who demonstrate consistent and continual loyalty to party line as well, but this comment was addressed to you.
I hope this comment is taken with the good will with which is was written.
All the best.
its funny how on ywn website catering mostly to the jewish cominuties around the world and around the globe, most of the readers are saying that president obana is the worst ever, but on cnn.com and msnbc and other real news pols etc, obama is doing an amasing job!!! i guess jews have their owm opionion”s!!!
News flash to Wolfman,we do have the”inside track” on how Hashem wants us to vote.See, there is this”guidebook” we have that tells us how to live our lives in every aspect,its called the Torah. Just to pick one of the subjects the Torah deals with that should preclude any Jew from having anything other than total contempt for B.O.is called “pikuach nefesh”.This means taking all measures wth rare exception(ie.the gimmel chamuros)to pesserve Jewish life.With obama the ways in which his policies violate the preservation of (Jewish)lives is endless.To list a few;not willing to retrieve life saving info. from terrorists through extreme measures,his inherent dislike for Israel and lack of concern for its safty as proven by his stated policies and associations(rev.wright,prof. khalidi, ,susan rice,louis farakhan ect,)support for abortion on demand.I could keep on going but perhaps the most dangerous is his plan to socialize healthcare which automaticly leads to rationing.The means that buerocrats will decide that some illneses and conditions can not be treated for cost reasons leaving thousands to die r’l.This is not exageration or hyperlobe but fact as evidenced in every country with socialized medicine.(Yidden,wake up!!)Wolfman,if all this is not enough please rtespond and i could go on and on.May I suggest that you might be more informed and have more clarity if you got your news from sources other than abc,nbc,cbs and the ny times.
“when the Republicans were in power for the entire time ” – charlie hall
THis shows how the Obamanuts think – the fact is that since 2006 the Dems were in control of congress. Bush is at fault for not fighting them harder – he tried to pass legislation many times to stop the irresponsible loans which was shot down but never made it a national priority, but he is not the ‘source’ of the problem. THe subprime cirsis which is the source of the economic difficulties is with the deeply ingrained democratic philosophy of providing freebies to irresponsible people and not trying to let them start helping themselves – the highest form of Tzedoko.
Even though I am not a democrat supporter when Obama got in the promises he was making sounded very assuring and I thought he will really group the USA together and see life in happier days but being 100 days on it appears very apparent that he seems to be a load of hot air I mean what has he done to benefit anyone unless you call raising taxes and extending hand to Iran a benefit but I and most civilised people will not agree but anyways it will not be long before the republicans will gear up their propaganda machine.
